SOSUNS Athletes Enjoy Tennis Carnival

Ben, Nathaniel, Jim and Ashley recently competed in the 2011 Special Olympics NSW State Tennis Carnival and all agree that they had a fantastic time.  Ben, Nathaniel and Jim train every Thursday at Kim Warwick Tennis Academy in Hornsby and have a great time improving their skills in an encouraging and fun atmosphere.  Ashley loves tennis above all other sports and trains most days on the Lower North Shore.  When not taining Ashley is busy passing on his skills and knowledge to other children including younger Special Olympics athletes. The balls flew across the court in a magnificent display of power and precision.

When playing against the reigning world champion there is no choice but to go for the line and that is exactly what Ashley Springett did.

It was a thrill for Ashley to play in the mixed doubles competition against Kelly and her brother Michael and he was very proud to come away with a bronze medal.

Ashley also earned a commendable fourth place in the singles competition.

Eighteen months ago a group of athletes living in the Chatswood/Willoughby area desperately wanted to join Special Olympics and learn how to play tennis.  There was just two problems - extensive phone calls and research had failed to find them a coach or a venue.  And then to their rescue came David Falconer of Tennis Cove and Martin Coles of Marty Sports.
