Recently three SOSUNS athletes and their mentors participated in the Special Olympics Athlete Leadership Program (ALPs). ALPs gives athletes the chance to learn new skills, take on leadership roles in their community and show what they are capable of on and off the sporting field. Opportunities are available for athletes to speak to the public, attend functions, serve on boards and committees and volunteer as officials or coaches.
Lucy, Nathaniel and Harry, along with their mentors and athletes from other Special Olympic regions attended the Athletes as Ambassadors ALPs program. They learnt how to prepare and write a speech promoting Special Olympics and then stand up in front of an audience to speak.
Volunteer mentors Deb and Lorna also had a great day and lots of laughs. They are ready to support Lucy, Nathaniel and Harry by providing their time and sharing their skills.
