SOSUNS Athletes Enjoy Holiday Activities

SOSUNS athletes, their families and friends had a fantastic time over the Easter school holidays as they were kept very busy attending a variety of fun activities.  The friendships formed by SOSUNS athletes are a highlight of the Special Olympics experience and these holiday activities allowed athletes to meet with their friends and have loads of fun. SOSUNS Dancers Perform at Citizenship Ceremony

The recent SOSUNS dance concert so impressed Kuringai Mayor Elaine Malicki that she asked the Perfomance Dance Group to dance at a citizenship ceremony she was due to officiate at.   

The dancers were very excited to perform in front of a big crowd in the Kuringai Council Chambers on such a serious occasion. 

The Performance Group danced to ‘Shine’ and received a deafening ovation from their very appreciative audience.  Mayor Elaine Malicki was so impressed by the positive feedback that she has recommended the group return to dance at future ceremonies!

 

Special Olympic’s Mel Inspires at the Rock

Mel is a very determined SOSUNS athlete who loves a challenge!  While most people like to spend Easter Sunday eating chocolate eggs and hot cross buns, Mel has, for the past two years, swum in the  Rock to Rock, a 1.5 kilometre ocean swim at Elizabeth Beach in Forster.  Read more

Special Olympics Sydney Upper North Shore aims to offer sporting opportunties to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.  It would be impossible to reach as many athletes as we do without the help of our wonderful volunteers.  Two of our SOSUNS athletes are also amongst our best volunteers. Athletics Summer Program 2009

Special Olympics Upper North Shore does not currently run it’s own athletics training.  All of the local Little Athletics Associations in the Upper North Shore Region happily accept registrations for athletes with intellectual disabioities.  Parents are however, asked to supervise and help their child each week.

Athletes who participate in weekly Little Athletics training are eligible to participate in all Special Olympic Regional and State competitions provided that they are registered with Special Olympics.
