A fantastic day was had by all at the recent regional softball carnval held by SOSUNS at st Ives Village Green.  The sun chose this day to finally shine through and all players were in good spirits.

There are currently only two softball teams in NSW, SOSUNS and Sydney North.  The two teams enjoyed a friendly game with sportsmanship and goodwill the predominant features of the day.

Brett, our SOSUNS coach, did a fantastic job managing the game and keeping the players motivated to do their best.  He was admirably supported by massistnat coach mandy, umpires Sue and Fran and the Sydney North coaches Olly and Beth.

A huge thank you also to our band of student volunteers who supported Brett and Mandy and helped the athletes really have a good time with lots of help and laughs.

Both teams batted and fielded well.  There were so many home runs on both sides that at the end of the session the game was called a healthy and successful draw!

Well done to parent coordinator Cath, on organising a great softball experience for our athletes!

Softball report for 15th November

We had a wonderful day practising our skills so we can take on the Cougars and smash them again.

All of the athletes were fantastic as per usual.

Next week, if all goes to plan, we will be playing the Cougars.  Hopefully we can beat them like we did last time!!!  So athletes if you haven’t been for awhile, it would be a great opportunity to come down and be part of the Upper North Shore Team!

So make sure that you practice during the week, because I am sure that the Cougars will not want to loose again.

Again for all athletes in the state team - you must bring your shin pads to every training session and wear them of course.

Thank you to all the volunteers and parents who help every week.  It is much appreciated by the athletes.

Also, I have been begging for the trophies to be brought back.  Can parents please have another look around as we currently have no trophies to give to the athletes.

Yours in softball

Audrey

Back after school holidays - Come and join us!

Back after school holidays and it was great to see that many of our athletes practiced during the school holidays.

Luckily the rain kept away and we were able to do some fantastic drills as well as play a match!

All the athletes put in a great effort this week but special mentions must go to Alexandra for her wonderful concentration and effort during the ball drills, Patrick for his wonderful fielding during the match, Harry for his wonderful efforts on 1st base, Andrew for his pure concentration and to Alistair for his sit ups and also his fielding.

Audrey and Brett would also like to thank all the new volunteers and parents that came to help on Sunday.  If you know anyone else who would like to volunteer, please encourage them to come down and give it a try!

The athletes in the State Team are away at camp this Sunday (1/11/09).  Due to this we will not have softball on this date, but will be back at Jubilee Field on Sunday 8 November.

Also could any athletes bring back any trophies they have at home, our stock has been depleted!

For parents - if your child does win a trophy, please if possible bring some fruit the next week to share with the group.

All state athletes, don’t forget you need to bring your shin guards with you to every Sunday session also!

Softball/T-ball News From Sunday 31st May 2009

Unfortunately we had another clash of event times with SOSUNS dance so we missed seeing some of our regulars such as Mel, Shaun and Lachlan.

Our three players, Michael, Alistair and his brother Lewis had an action packed game that saw some great sprinting by Alistair to out run his Dad on first base and Mum on third base.  The fielding from the adults was somewhat ordinary to say the least.

Audrey awarded a trophy to Lewis for the cracking hit of the day!

We had a special guest, Audrey’s Mum Dot, who is visiting from Melbourne and she managed to keep Audrey on her best behaviour!  Thanks again to Andrew Eustace for assisting Audrey with the coaching.

Given this coming Sunday is on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, we will take a poll to see whether we play or not.

Finally, many happy returns go to Ian, Alistair’s Dad, for this coming weekend.

Softball/T-Ball News From Sunday 24th May 2009

The only two players, Carmen and Michael, enjoyed one-on-one coaching.  Brett taught a new skill of picking the ball up off the ground cleanly, ensuring that you have a good grip.  Audrey awarded a trophy to Michael for concentration and listening.

A big thanks to Andrew Eustace who also diligently assisted with activities (as normal) despite Mel having a day off.  Mel had uncharacteristically slept in after getting home in the wee hours from a big SOSUNS dance performance.  So we will excuse her this once!

Looking forward to seeing you all back ready for a great session next week!!!!
