Special Olympics Makes a Difference for Alistair

Recently I received the following letter from a mother of a Special Olympic athlete. This athlete, Alistair, represented NSW in the softball at the recent National Games in Adelaide.
‘Alistair had the best time in Adelaide at the 2010 Special Olympics National Games. Alistair came home a different young man. He is much more confident and his language has improved as he is concentrating on trying to be understood. Alistair is now saying his sentences much more clearly and they are sentences, not just one word answers.

Exciting! Party! Friends! Clapping and Cheering! Fun! Best time of my life! I feel like a hero! These are just some of the words used by athletes to desribe the recent 2010 National Games held in Adelaide. For one week family, supporters and volunteers were treated to sport played at the highest level, displays of inspirational sportsmanship and athletes brimming with pride and enthusiasm. Read more
Run With the Law Underway
The excitement of SOSUNS athletes was obvious by the big smiles on their faces as they gathered together, ready to participate in the 2010 Run With the Law. Nathaniel stood calm and proud, excited to see one of his heroes, footballer Craig Wing, Michael and Brandon were excited, ready to take their turn with the torch, James had the honour of actually holding the torch whilst it was being lit, Ryan, Sophie, James, Bec and Ashley all chatted and laughed, impatient for this once in a lifetime experience to begin, Lauren carried the NSW State flag high and Shaun and Mel high fived and cheered their way along the course. SOSUNS performance group bring joy to campers.

The smiles on the audience were a pleasure to behold. They clapped, laughed, moved to the music in their seats and then finally unable to contain themselves any longer, those that could, jumped up and joined in. Lucy to represent Australia!

Lucy has been selected as a member of the Australian team travelling to Taiwan in October to attend the 5th Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships. She is one of three athletes selected from NSW and the only girl.
