St Ives awareness day a huge success!

St Ives Awareness Day was a big success! We raised approximately $2,850 for our athletes to get over to Adelaide for the National Games. Anthea, Michael, Shaun and I would like to thank all the athletes who helped out on the day.
Big thanks to Ashley Springett who is always a great help - especailly when people go to donate money and he says very nicely, “You can do better than that. How about a $50 note?”
A huge thank you also to David and Richard Bourke and their Mum, Tom Brokenshire, Mel Eustace, Darrin Pryor and Darrin’s carer who brought him down. This was the first awareness day that Darrin has attended and he had a great time. Thanks to Ashely’s mum, Wendy, who drove Darrin home even though it was half an hour in the opposite direction of where she lives.
Thank you Lauren Heggie, who tells me she is very shy but after not very long was facing people on her own asking for donations.
Finally an extra big thank you to Tom Brokenshire and his family who have turned up to help at EVERY single awareness day. Without dedicated people like this Special Olympics would not exist.
Thanks
Karen Bender
On behalf of all the National Games athletes and their families, the biggest thank you must go to Karen who has singlehandedly organised these awareness days and with the help of the abovementioned athletes plus a few more, raised approximately $6000. Karen who are an inspiration to us all!
