Lucy to represent Australia!

Lucy has been selected as a member of the Australian team travelling to Taiwan in October to attend the 5th Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships. She is one of three athletes selected from NSW and the only girl.
Lucy will swim eight races and is a valuable member of the relay team. She came back from the last World Championships held in Portugal in 2008 with four gold and one silver medal. Lucy currently holds world records in the 100m individual medley and 100m butterfly long course.
Lucy is currently training hard doing six sessions a week at Aquabliss Normanhurst, as well as gym sessions. That is a lot of early mornings for Lucy!
Fortunately Lucy loves to swim. She loves “the feeling of the water on her skin …. oh except when it is icy cold!”
When Lucy is not training so hard she also participates in soccer and golf both of which sports she is also the only girl. lucy believes that”….girls can play any sport..” and is looking forward to “…beating the boys at golf ..” one day.
Lucy is also a valued volunteer within Special Olympics. She helps with the school program at Warrawee Public School and Clarke Rd Special School every week. Lucy is a great mentor to the children where she can show them that disability is no barrier to success if you have the right attitude, you work hard and you have great support system in place.
Good luck in Taiwan Lucy!
