SOSUNS Celebration of Dance

January 16, 2010 by deb

The 2009 dance program finished spectacularly with a dance concert featuring five of the SOSUNS dance groups and the Inala Music Ensemble.  Held at the kindly donated Turramurra High School Hall, the concert showcased our athletes dancing routines they have spent much of the year learning at lessons attended each week.  Each group performed at least two dances for an appreciative audience whose only complaint for the night was that it had to end.

Highlights of the night were many but just some include:

  • The audience up dancing and clapping to the Ryde group’s ABBA Medley
  • Watching Lauren, the ‘Dancing Queen’
  • Willis, Tim and Bowman looking very suave in their sparkly waistcoats
  • Selena so excited just to be on stage and with her eye on Mel the whole of every dance
  • Toby stunning the audience with all of his very groovy moves
  • Lachlan kindly prompting his fellow dancers
  • The Asquith group ‘Shaking it Out’ in their gorgeous pink cowboy and cowgirl outfits
  • The Epping boys melting the audiences’ hearts as they danced to ‘We go Together’ in their cool denim jackets
  • The big smiles of every dancer on stage as they all shone in their own right!!!!
  • Harry doing a fantastic job as a Special Olympics Ambassador welcoming the audience and closing the evening.

The audience was also treated to some very special entertainment by staff and clients of Inala.  Inala carer, Brad Myers, was brilliant as he treated the audience to 3 songs including one original.  The Inala Music Ensemble performed Pachobel Cannon with bells and the purity of the sound was exquisite.

The SOSUNS dance program would not exist without our wonderful dance teachers.  Cathy, Danni, Mel, Karina and Kate do a fantastic job and are very much appreciated by all of the dancers and their families.  All of the teachers are unanimous in their claims to love teaching our happy and enthusiastic SOSUNS dancers.

Finally a big thankyou to the individual group parent coordinators  and especially Jo Abbott who is overall coordinator of the SOSUNS dance program.  The hours that Jo dedicates to SOSUNS are countless and without Jo the dance concert would not have happened.  Thaks also to those who kindly volunteered to help and set up on the day including Fran, JT, James, Kez, Ian and Deb.

We are currently looking for a dance teacher to take a group of very enthusiastic athletes at Oakhill College in the Hills District.  If you would be interested in becoming involved please contact Deb Frost 0424 403 065.
