SOSUNS Athletes Enjoy National Games Camp

November 30, 2009 by deb

Who cares about rest, relaxation and sleep?  Certainly not the 21 SOSUNS athletes selected to represent NSW at the National Games to be held in Adelaide next year.  The athletes all recently enjoyed a brilliant weekend of training, fun, food, friends and disco dancing at the National Games Camp held over a weekend at Narrabeen Sport and Recereation camp.

With great anticipation athletes turned up on the Saturday morning unsure of what to expect.  Parents were quickly sent on their way and the fun began.  Swimming, basketball, football, athletics, golf and softball were the sports SOSUNS athletes are involved in and they all had a great time getting to know their fellow team members, learning some new tricks and how to ’shake their kaboosies’ from their coaches.  Of course they all managed to fit in some very worthwhile training ready to smash the other states at next year’s games.

A highlight of the weekend was the Saturday night disco where coaches and carers were constantly being frightened by some very scary halloween costumes.  Big red glowing eyes, witches, spiders and wizards with very funny hair colours were all roaming the disco, dancing, singing and having a great time.

Hundreds of volunteers worked tirelessly over the weekend to ensure all athletes had a fantastic time.  Head coaches, assistants, carers, medical staff and admin staff all joined the athletes for a memorable if very tiring experience.
