SOSUNS Cricket Celebration

March 25, 2009 by deb

What a shot… bowl…catch… runout!!!!  Delighted spectators saw it all at the recent end of year SOSUNS cricket celebration.  The crowd roared as huge sixes were hit, close runs were scored, brilliant fielding dives were made and the fastest bowling you have ever seen was executed.

The SOSUNS cricket team has been training for 6 months with their coaches, a carefully selected group of Northern District repersentative players along with Australian and English players from their respective women’s teams.  The coaches were stunned at the improvement of all players and the array of skills displayed during their end of season celebration match.

Our junior players did not disappoint.  Belinda dazzled the field with her magnificent batting and hairdo while Matthew was unstoppable with his bowling.  Josh certainly looked the part and batted and bowled like a player with twice his experience.

The senior players were also brilliant!  Man of the match was Kenneth who was impeccable as wicket keeper and then proceded to ‘hit the ball out of the park’.  Partnered by Nathaniel the pair were instrumental in their team winning the match.

Other brilliant batters included Harry, William and Francis.  The bowlers felt fear as they ran to bowl to these guys.  Team motivator Adam also had a brilliant game batting.  His strength though was encouraging all players to maintain their concentration in the field.

Among our best bowlers were newcomers Stuart and Andrew.  Their speed and technique were fantastic and both bowlers captured a few wickets.  Other bowlers to do well on the day were Joshua, Lachlan and Thomas.  Lachlan was also happy to repeatedly entertain th crowd with his acrobatic dives on the field to save runs while Tom was a steady and reliable fielder.

Cricket is not yet over for 2009.  in April SOSUNS will send a team to play against other regions in a carnival hosted by Roselands Region.  This will be followed by the State Championships to be held in the Blue Mountains in June.
